Welcome! Pack 2 is one of Dedham’s oldest Cub Packs, recognized regularly by the Council as a "Quality Unit". The Pack serves boys from Dedham and neighboring communities for more than 25 years. The Pack is sponsored by the Dedham Oddfellows who believe that Scouting is an excellent foundation for life. We are overseen by a Parent’s Committee consisting of parents, Cubmasters, and concerned citizens. The Committee meets monthly. Visitors are welcome; contact one of the Cubmasters for committee meeting information.
We meet monthly at St. Lukes Church, East Street, Dedham. The exact schedule varies from month to month. Dens meet periodically during the month. Please check our online calendar for the latest meeting and event information or call one of the Scoutmasters.
Fun, usually through activities and outdoor adventure, is the Pack's first objective. Unless the boys are having fun, they won't stay in Scouting. The Pack provides structured activities, chocked full of fun, to achieve the goals of Scouting, which, simply put, is to prepare boys for the life ahead of them. Each boy is challenged to find something in Scouting that is special for him. During the school year, the Pack meeting serves as the ‘main event’. In addition we hold a variety of special activities including overnights, hikes, and trips.
We have some 50 registered Scouts, of which approximately 30-40 actively attend meetings and events. Pack members range in age from 7 to 10. All boys are welcome to check out the Pack; please bring a parent along with you. Most of the boys join the Pack in September. Boys may join at any time and need not have been a Cub Scout. The Pack consists largely of boys living in Dedham, but we have a large number of boys from Hyde Park and other communities.
The Pack’s advancement program is working, we have boys at all Scout ranks from Bobcat to Webelos. Each year 1 to 2 Scouts from the Pack achieve Scouting’s highest rank that of Eagle Scout.
Advancement through the ranks is an important part of Scouting program and we strive to help each scout to achieve his potential. Attendance at Pack and Den meetings is important to advancement, as is participation in main events. Parents play an important part in the Cub Scout advancement program. Most of the requirements are completed at home with parents and relatives.
Parental involvement is an important part of the Scouting experience. You need not have been a Scout or even have outdoor experience. We can find a role for you. Please join us for a most rewarding experience. Get to know your son!
